Handwoven Takia Cushion – Charcoal
Made from Harris Tweed and organic Kala Cotton, our Takia cushion covers are bold and contemporary. They bring together handwoven cloths from two, very different, corners of the world and celebrate the common threads that bind these weaving traditions together, as well as their distinct cultural heritage. Square = 45x45cm | Rectangle = 30x50cm
Kala Cotton is indigenous to the arid region of Kutch in Gujarat. The crop is purely rain-fed and has a high immunity against diseases and pests, which means there is no need to use pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, making it organic by default.
Handwoven fabrics are soft, durable and breathable – many of these properties are due to the human handling of the yarn during the weaving process. Looms are operated and powered by hand or foot, so no electricity is required to make the cloth, resulting in the process being ecologically sound.
