Kala Cotton is indigenous to the arid region of Kutch in Gujarat. The crop is purely rain-fed and has a high immunity against diseases and pests, which means there is no need to use pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, making it organic by default.
We source our material from an NGO in Kutch, but are also working directly with a weaver from Bhujodi, a village just outside of Bhuj, with a 500 year weaving tradition. This kind of collaboration allows us to experiment and develop customized designs while keeping runs small.
